With around 3000 hours of sun per year and over 300 days of sun per year, Algarve villa rentals have never been such a stellar idea!

Differences within the Algarve

The climate in the Algarve is a bit drier than in other parts of Portugal. In the interior of the Algarve, it can be really hot and dry, due to the absence of wind from the sea. This sometimes leads to forest fires, like in Monchique. The east of the Algarve is usually a bit hotter and drier than the west of the Algarve, because of the influence of the Atlantic Ocean in the west.

Rainfall

In general, it rains little in the Algarve. Most of the rain falls in the period from November until the end of March. The summer is usually quite dry. In the winter it rarely gets below 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) and it rarely snows.

Sea water temperatures

The sea water is around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) in summer and 16 degrees Celsius (61 degrees Fahrenheit) in winter. Because of the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean winds, the sea water is generally warmer in the east of the Algarve than in the west of the Algarve.

January, February and March in The Algarve

June in The Algarve

As the calendar turns to June, the Algarve truly comes alive. The days grow longer and warmer, with azure skies overhead. The temperatures dance in the 22 to 28 degree range – hot enough for beach days and balmy evenings, but rarely crossing into sweltering.

It’s the perfect climate for golf and tennis – sports that thrive during Portugal’s gloriously long summer days. And for those more inclined towards relaxation, the region’s beaches and pools beckon for long afternoons of lounging with a cocktail in hand.

When the sun dips towards the horizon each evening, the possibilities open up even more. Meander along coastal trails at golden hour, enjoy a sunset dinner at a cliffside restaurant, or simply relax on your villa’s terrace and watch the pastel colors stretch across the sky.

Truly, June represents the Algarve at its finest. The crowds of high season have yet to arrive, and the temperatures are ideal. Whether your ideal holiday involves sporting adventures or simple indulgence, you’re certain to find it here. June is the month where the Algarve comes into full and vibrant bloom!

July and August in The Algarve

And the summer holidays begin… The Algarve is a very popular location through the school holidays and with approx. 200 km of beach from west to east there is plenty of room for everyone. Along the coast are some fabulous resorts and locations.

Our favourite area is the Golden Triangle (Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Dunas Douradas) and this is the most popular along with Vilamoura and Albufeira. Temperature really do heat up in these months from around 24 – 33 degrees Celsius. Definitely the time of year for sun worshipers, ocean lovers, and lively restaurants/venues.

September and October in The Algarve

September and October are great times to visit if you don’t want the hustle and bustle of the June, July, and August months. The beaches are quieter and in general, everywhere is a little more sedate and relaxing. The temperatures are still bikini weather, especially in September and both months are similar to June, nice for evening or early morning walks.

September tends to be around the 20 – 28 degrees Celsius mark and October cooling a little to around 18 – 25 degree Celsius. October also a great month for golf, walking and other sports activities.
