Discover Premium 2 Bedroom Rentals in Salema

Salema offers two-bedroom villas and apartments sitting directly on or just metres from a beach in one of the western Algarve’s last authentic fishing villages. For couples or small groups who want space, privacy, and a genuinely unhurried pace of life, this stretch of coast delivers something the busier eastern Algarve cannot.

Algarve Villa Selection is a small, family-run business founded by Denise, who runs it with her sister Dawn. Between them they have over 20 years of living in and exploring the Algarve. That depth of local knowledge shapes every property they select and every piece of advice they pass on to guests.

Why Choose 2 Bedroom Accommodation in Salema?

A two-bedroom property is the sweet spot for a Salema holiday. It gives two couples room to share without living in each other’s pockets, or a family with one or two children a proper base with space to spread out at the end of a long beach day. Self-catering in a village like Salema also makes practical sense: you can buy fresh fish directly from the boats on the beach in the morning, cook dinner on the terrace in the evening, and eat breakfast watching the Atlantic from a rooftop before deciding how to spend the day.

Salema itself rewards guests who stay for a full week or more rather than passing through. The light changes differently on the cliffs at different times of day, the village has its own rhythms, and the surrounding coastline, including walks east to Boca do Rio and drives west towards Sagres, gives you enough to explore without any need to fight for a sun lounger.

What Makes Salema Special?

Salema sits within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park. That Natural Park designation is the reason the village looks the way it does: development has been tightly controlled, so the whitewashed houses, the fishing boats drawn up on the sand, and the yellow limestone cliffs rising behind the bay are all still there. The beach, a kilometre of sheltered, gently-shelving sand, holds a Blue Flag rating for water quality and safety, and the bay’s natural protection from Atlantic swell keeps it suitable for swimming throughout the main season.

What most visitors notice first is the pace. In the mornings, fishermen still mend nets near the water’s edge and the catch comes in fresh. By mid-morning the beach fills gradually but never uncomfortably. In the evenings the village square settles into the Portuguese habit of eating late and unhurriedly.

The geological footnote worth knowing: fossilised dinosaur footprints are preserved in the limestone rocks at the western end of the beach, visible at low tide.

What Are the Premium Features of Our 2 Bedroom Salema Rentals?

Our properties in Salema sit on the beachfront and share a set of features that reflect their premium status. Each has en-suite bathrooms, sleeps four guests, and includes air conditioning, WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. Daily maid service is included as standard, something that distinguishes these properties from the typical self-catering rental.

The rooftop terrace is a feature properties carry, and it is worth understanding what that means in practice on a Salema beachfront: uninterrupted Atlantic views, evening sun until it dips behind the cliffs, and enough space to dine outdoors properly with friends. These are working outdoor rooms.

Featured Property: Casa Estrela do Mar

Casa Estrela do Mar is a two-storey beachfront townhouse arranged over ground and first floor. The ground floor has an open-plan kitchen and living and dining area, plus the first bedroom with its own en-suite. The first floor master bedroom has direct ocean views and opens onto the rooftop terrace. A few steps from the front door and you have sand between your toes.

The property sleeps four and has two bedrooms, both ensuite, one with a king bed and one with a double. The layout makes it well-suited to two couples who want separate spaces within a single property, with the ground-floor bedroom offering more privacy from the main living areas.

The beach directly in front of the property is gently sloping and safe for swimming, with a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A handful of restaurants, bars, and small shops sit within easy walking distance in the village. For those interested in diving, the wreck of the French warship L’Océan, sunk during the Seven Years’ War, lies roughly 300 metres beneath the waters off Salema beach.

What Can You Do Near Salema?

The village keeps you entertained without requiring a car, but having one opens up a coastline that is genuinely spectacular.

  • On the beach and in the water. Snorkelling along the rock formations on the western end of Salema beach is rewarding from late spring onwards, with rock pools home to fish and starfish. The bay is sheltered enough for kayaking and paddleboarding, with equipment available for hire. Zavial, fifteen minutes along the coast, is one of the south Algarve’s better surf spots when the swell is up.
  • Coastal walking. The cliffside trail east from Salema to Praia da Boca do Rio is one of the area’s best short walks, following the Natural Park coastline with views back over the bay. Allow a couple of hours and bring water. The trail connects to a wider network that runs along this stretch of coast.
  • Boat trips. Dolphin spotting tours run from the western Algarve throughout most of the year. The combination of offshore depth and Atlantic current on this stretch of coast means sightings are frequent.
  • Day trips from Salema. Lagos is less than 30 minutes by car and worth a half-day for the old town, the fort, and the fish market. Sagres and Cape St. Vincent, the south-westernmost point of continental Europe, are thirty minutes away and feel genuinely remote, with a lighthouse, a fortress, and cliff-edge views unlike anywhere else on the Algarve coast.
